Eight students from the Chiana Senior High School in the Kassena-Nankana West District of thee Upper East Region have been expelled by the Ghana Education Service (GES) for uttering disparaging remarks against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
You may remember that eight students were featured in a last year’s viral video making derogatory remarks about the President and his free SHS program.
Following their wrongdoing, the national management of the GES issued a statement condemning the behavior and issuing an apology to the President on behalf of the public, the school, and the students.
However, following in-depth inquiries into the pupils’ behavior, Dr. Eric Nkansah, Director General of the Ghana Education Service, sent a letter on November 29, 2022, directing the dismissal of all eight students from the school.
One of the student’s behavior was “considered very undesirable and opposed to the appropriate norms of conduct generally required of any student in our Educational system in Ghana,” according to a letter to her parents.
To bring about the required change in behavior and outlook on life, the GES advised the students to use their dismissal as “a key turning point in her life.”
