A/R: Police Officer, Wife, And 3 Months Baby Burnt To Death

An officer with the Anti-Robbery Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command has been killed after fire destroyed his home at Apromase in the Ashanti Region.

The tragedy is thought to have happened Sunday night, and Sergeant Owusu Asante Baafi, his wife Yaa Achiaa, and their three-month-old child all perished from burn injuries.

The cause of the incident is unknown, however, members of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were on the scene to start an investigation.
A next-door neighbor was quoted as saying to 3news.com, “I heard some disturbance and stepped out of my room.

“I then observed heavy smoke flowing from the deceased’s room to my room. I roused my two boys out of bed and hurried them downstairs. The officer and his family were trapped outside, and some of the men who came out tried desperately to get inside and rescue them, but they were unsuccessful due to the steel door and burglar-proof window. The fire quickly spread to all 5 of the last floor’s units.

Additionally, a few police officers were present to assist with the inquiry.

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), is en route to the Ashanti Region to comfort grieving relatives.

Dead bodies have been placed in the morgue at the Living Waters hospital.
