A new nationwide survey released by Global InfoAnalytics for the month of April 2023 showed that the Former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen is still leading Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the race to be voted flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The poll for the NPP primaries showed Assin Central Lawmaker Kennedy Ohene Agyapong (KOA) gaining among general voters, but not enough to overtake Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten (AKK) and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (DMB).
When respondents were asked to declare their preference for the NPP leadership, Mr. Agyapong now received 23% of the vote, according to the report.
“AKK continues to lead DMB among all voters, 30 percent to 29 percent.” However, among NPP affiliates, DMB maintains a slim edge over AKK. DMB now has 39 percent of NPP votes, AKK 37 percent, and KOA 23 percent.
“However, the poll shows AKK leading DMB 57 percent to 43 percent among all voters and 53 percent to 47 percent among NPP voters in the event of a runoff.” H.E. John Dramani Mahama (JDM) is set to gain his party’s nomination when elections begin on May 13, 2023, as he leads his closest competitor, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor (DKD), by 75 percent.
Hon. Kojo Bonsu came in third place with 8% of the votes.
“However, among NDC affiliates, John Mahama leads Dr. Duffuor 93% to 4% and Kojo Bonsu (KB) with 3%.” JDM leads all NPP frontrunners in the general election. JDM has a 54 percent to 40 percent lead over AKK, with another 6 percent planning to vote for someone else. JDM also has a 55 percent to 38 percent edge over DMB, with 7 percent planning to vote for someone else.
“In what could be described as a meteoric rise in the poll, KOA is currently very competitive against JDM.” KOA presently lags JDM by 38% to 55%, with 7% planning to vote for someone else. “In January, KOA trailed JDM by 31% to 63%,” according to the report’s Executive Summary.
