‘Be Real In Your Expectations,’ Otumfuo Advises Labor Unions

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is also the Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has urged labor unions, particularly the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), to temper their demands for better working conditions.

“I urge the administration to maintain its commitment to ensuring that equity is manifested and that citizens are fairly assured and pleased.

In the same breath, I urge UTAG and all other college unions, as well as civil society at large, to temper their expectations, especially at a time when the world economy is grappling with the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

At a special congregation ceremony at KNUST, the Asantehene delivered this speech.
He believes that if the appeal is granted, it will aid in the avoidance of long-term strikes by labor unions.
