Black Stars skipper Andre Ayew has been left out of the team’s trip to Luanda for the rematch with Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on Monday.
The 33-year-old will not travel with the group due to a knee injury received on his way to the dressing room following Ghana’s triumph over the Palancas Negras on Thursday at the Baba Yara Stadium.
According to the Ghana Football Association, the Nottingham Forest forward will return to England for further treatment, forcing him to miss back-to-back Black Stars games.
Ayew, the country’s most capped player, was an unused replacement in Ghana’s game last Thursday, in which Thomas Partey led the squad as captain.
Denis Odoi and Alexander Djiku, both stars in the encounter, will also miss the trip to Luanda due to injury, while Salisu Mohammed remains a doubt for the match on Monday.
Ghana presently leads Group E with seven points, while Angola and Central African Republic are tied for fourth place with four points each. Ghana would be hoping for another away win to ensure their place in Ivory Coast next year.
