Derek Boateng, a former Ghana international, has asked the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to allow new Black Stars coach Chris Hughton to operate independently and select his players without interference.
Hughton got four points from his first two games in charge after signing a 21-month deal with two assistant coaches, George Boateng, and Masud Didi Dramani. He hopes to qualify the team for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
Hughton, according to Boateng, possesses the attributes required to manage the Ghanaian team, but he requires assistance owing to his lack of coaching experience in Africa and as a national team coach.
“He requires assistance because he is inexperienced with the African terrain.” He requires media support, and the GFA should not interfere with his work. “He should be able to work independently and call his players because you can tell that he is a genuine coach, so he needs that freedom to work so we can see how it goes,” Boateng told Asempa Radio.
“Chris Hughton has previously coached in the Premier League, and we are all aware of his ability.” His credentials are excellent, but because this is his first national team position, he requires our assistance.”
