She stated this on the House floor on Tuesday, June 14, in response to a question from Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu about whether the GhanaCard is an e-passport.

“At the moment, the GhanaCard cannot be used to travel to other countries, either inside or outside of ECOWAS, because that would necessitate bilateral agreements with nations’ governments to allow the card to be accepted as a travel document.” To achieve this, the Ministry is in active discussions with ECOWAS member nations and our bilateral partners.”

“It must be emphasized that the passport, along with the travel certificate, are the only internationally accepted travel documents for Ghanaians.”
