President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo has encouraged newly sworn-in Election Commission (EC) members not to be afraid of scrutiny.
He urged them to be diligent in carrying out their responsibilities, as their decisions would be scrutinized more than ever before.
“On the contrary, let the Ghanaian people’s expectation propel you to tremendous heights, and above all, ensure that the Ghanaian people’s will is upheld.”
“I have always campaigned for and pushed for a credible electoral process in Ghana,” he added. In highlighting the importance of election legitimacy, it should be noted that the counting, collation, and declaration of results cannot and should not take precedence over the sacrosanct God-given right to vote.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: elections are about people who vote, not those who count, supervise, transmit, or declare.” Giving effect to the choices made by individuals who vote is at the heart of the democratic process.”
Mr. Akufo-Addo swore in three new members of Ghana’s Election Commission on Monday, March 20. (EC).
