Felix Kwakye Ofosu, a former Deputy Minister of Information, has informed young Ghanaians that the 24-hour economy envisioned by former President John Dramani Mahama is exactly what they need.
He added that the 24-hour economy will allow the economy to develop, resulting in more jobs for the youth.
In a message to his followers, he said, “If you are a young person out there, the bottom line for you with @JDMahama ‘s 24-hour economy proposal is that he wants to create room for an expansion of economic activity so you can secure a job after the NPP’s destruction of the economy and severe limitation of fiscal space.”
Former President John Dramani Mahama, a proponent of the 24-hour economy, stated that incentives would be granted to enterprises that sign up for this strategy.
He stated that the policy would be optional rather than imposed on firms.
“I envision a 24-hour economy in which hospitals, gas stations, manufacturers, construction companies, garbage collection companies, mining and extractive industries, agro-processing, harbours and ports, financial services, and digital start-ups will operate a three-shift system 24/7 in a safe and secure environment.”
“The 24-hour economy I propose will be voluntary, not imposed.” Businesses will be incentivized to sign up by tax breaks, increased security, and lower electricity rates after peak hours. Special meters will be installed to give what are known as time-of-use tariffs, which will deliver cheaper power to such enterprises between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 a.m.,” he remarked on Saturday, November 18, while speaking to Catholic Bishops in Sunyani.
He went on to say that the 24-hour economy is intended to create jobs for all Ghanaians. “The 24-hour economy I proposed is for jobs and more jobs,” the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer emphasized.
Mr Mahama suggested the ’24-hour Economy’ concept when he met with leaders from the country’s mother workers union on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, as part of his interaction with key stakeholders in his drive to reclaim power.
